November past and a lot of things happened this months…there where Hashtags you couldn’t ignore, fantastic exhibitions, movies and books. As always Ayala and me wrote down a few highlights, enjoy:
I am sure you saw the Hashtags #freecyntoiabrown on Instagram this months. Not just Rihanna posted a picture calling up for more justice in the system. The 16 year old girl, who became a victim of child sex trafficking was sentenced to life in prison for shooting a sexual predator.
did we somehow change the definition of #JUSTICE along the way?? cause….. Something is horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life! To each of you responsible for this child’s sentence I hope to God you don’t have children, because this could be your daughter being punished for punishing already! #FREECYNTOIABROWN #HowManyMore
My movie tip for this months, if you haven’t already seen it, go watch “the square” from Ruben Östlund. The satirical drama, produced in Sweden already won the golden palm in Cannes this year. Its about the curator of the new exhibition with the name “the square”. I was mostly impressed by the camera work and the smart dialogues. I would definitely recommend to watch the film in its original language with subtitles.
Paris Photo, the international art fair of photography and one of the most important events in the photography world, celebrated its 21st edition this year and what a celebration it was! More than 150 galleries from 29 countries showcased their artists and their finest work across 4 sectors: Main Gallery Sector, PRISMES sector (dedicated to large format and installation works), Book sector and the new and promising Film/Video sector. The list of photographers who took part in this enormous fair is never ending but just to name a few: Alec Soth, André Kertész, William Klein, Sarah Moon, Nadav Kander, Vanessa Beecroft and the guest of honour, Karl Lagerfeld.
If you didn’t make it this year, don’t worry. The dates for Paris Photo 2018 have already been announced (8-11.11.2018)!
Robert Frank, one of the most influential photographers and filmmakers of all times, turned 93 this month. It was, of course, no coincidence that his biography „American Witness: The Art and Life of Robert Frank“ by R J Smith was published the same month. Did anyone mention Christmas present?.. Happy Birthday, Mr. Frank!
December is almost here, the most wonderful time of the year. It ends with some most important family time but if you still didn’t make plans fort its beginning, the amazing „Art Basel in Miami Beach“ fair (https://www.artbasel.com/basel) is probably your best bet. And wherever you are, don’t forget to stay tuned with our Facebook page and Instagram account as we are giving away looots of amazing presents this year!
